My name is Stephanie.
- I love living in California. I was drawn to the San Francisco Bay Area by its wild, scenic beauty, and as many Californians, I love the outdoors! I grew up in suburban Pennsylvania, somewhere between the City of Brotherly Love and Amish country.
- My work requires me to survey butterflies and go on hikes. Okay, so it isn't always that glamorous... but it occasionally is! I work as a biologist at a small business in the Bay Area that provides environmental consulting expertise, primarily throughout California. This being said, I am constantly learning new things about the ecology of California - it's so diverse and fascinating!
- Honey runs deep in my roots. Growing up, my Polish grandfather talked incessantly about his bees. I didn't fully understand this obsession at the time, but nonetheless found bees interesting. As a kid, I was of course somewhat scared of bees due to the occasional barefoot sting in the summertime, but because of my grandfather, a part of me always wanted to try having my own hive. It wasn't until I lived in San Francisco that I realized I could make this a reality! Since April 2014, I've maintained some of the most gentle bees, which has been very rewarding.
There are certain pursuits which, if not wholly poetic and true, do at least suggest a nobler and finer relation to nature than we know. the keeping of bees, for instance, is a very slight interference. it is like directing the sunbeams.
